Public Data Collection

This data was provided to NIST by government, industry and academia; the data were recorded during the development or maintenance of software systems for various application domains. The systems are characterized by two main sets of information: project attributes and fault attributes relative to the software.

Users may sort data through a visual process of selecting several project and fault attributes. They may request to have a list of any additional attributes/ categories for each fault identified by the query. We are planning a capability to convert the output into a form suitable for statistical analysis and graphing capabilities.

The public repository will be temporarily disconnected through the month of September 1999 to allow for transition for new services.

You may go directly to the public data collection, or proceed through the following minitutorial.

Selection process within the query system

The process for selecting either project or fault attributes is the same. Queries may ask for attributes from both sets. So, select one by clicking on either project or attribute button, go through the process, return, and select the other.

On the screen for either project or attributes, the buttons to the left of each item activate pull down menus; select the attributes you want each project or fault/failure to have in order to be included in the resulting list of faults. The check box to the right indicates the categories that will be shown for each selected fault. You may toggle between project and attribute, and each category on those screens.

Query Activation process

Once you have formed your query, then you may either clear it and start over, or execute it. You may also execute saved queries - we will have a few sample outputs available for you.

The public repository will be temporarily disconnected through the mont h of September 1999 to allow for transition for new services.
